How to color eggs: new ideas
Every year more and more ideas appear on how to paint eggs for Easter, but, as a rule, all these ideas were used to one degree or another by our mothers and grandmothers.
How to Dye Eggs Vibrant Colors Without Using Chemical Dyes

With the Easter holiday approaching, everyone is looking forward to the most important stage of preparation - painting eggs! In this article, we will offer you some new or well-forgotten old ideas on how to dye eggs.

Probably, we should start with soft, muted colors that are now fashionable and with an interesting effect of uneven coloring.
So, how to paint eggs in such unusual colors, and even with an original effect?
- Everyone knows about onion peel, so it makes no sense to talk about its merits again, but not everyone knows about other natural dyes.
- For a natural green color, use 50 grams of mate tea per 1 liter of water, bring to a boil, put hard-boiled eggs in water and leave for 1 hour.
- If it is possible to get juice from elderberries, then heat it over a fire and put boiled eggs in it, after an hour they will acquire a delicate purple color.
- In order to get yellow eggs, use curry powder, add 50 gr. curry in 1 liter of water, bring to a boil, put the eggs in the water and leave for 1 hour.
- Light brown eggs can be obtained by leaving them for an hour in coffee brewed from 50 grams of ground coffee and 1 liter of water.
- Blue or blue eggs can be obtained by leaving them for an hour in blueberry broth, prepared in a proportion of 250 gr. blueberries per 1 liter of water.

How to color eggs to achieve such an interesting effect?
To do this, you will have to dismantle the herbarium or, in extreme cases, a bouquet bought on the occasion of painting eggs for the Easter holiday.
You will need leaves of different shapes and sizes, petals and whole flower heads.
Also, you can’t do without dyes, you can use both natural and industrial paints, and you will also need, just don’t be surprised, nylon stockings or tights.
Start just with the stockings, cut them into pieces so that one egg fits in each of them.
And now the fun begins.
Dip flower heads, petals and leaves in water and stick them to the egg, with the help of water they will fit more tightly to the shell and paint will not get under them.
Now carefully wrap the egg with a cloth from the stocking, stretch it and secure with threads. The fabric should be very tight around the egg so that the leaves or flowers cannot move. If the fabric does not fit tightly enough around the egg, then the desired effect will not work, because the paint will flow under the flowers and leaves.
When all the eggs are packed in stockings, dip them in the dye, wait until the shell is colored, then remove the eggs and wait until they dry.
When the eggs are dry, carefully remove the stocking and remove the flowers, petals and leaves.
If you did everything right, you should have the same beautiful holiday Easter eggs.

A simple pattern, and even applied with a toothpick, can be drawn by absolutely everyone.
Do not think that if the drawing is simple, then it is bad or ugly.
Even a simple pattern can be beautiful, original and interesting.
Boil the eggs and paint them in the colors of your choice.
Open the paints and prepare the toothpicks. Dip the tip of the toothpick into the paint and apply a few five-leaf flowers to the egg, lightly touching the tip of the toothpick to the shell.
Dip the tip of a clean toothpick into the paint of a different color and also draw the core of the flowers with light touches.
If painted eggs decorate 3-5 such painted eggs, the Easter table will look very festive.

Another simple but interesting answer to the question of how to dye eggs for Easter is to make them with polka dots.
Nobody has come up with anything simpler than a polka dot pattern, but things, including eggs, painted with such a pattern, look simply gorgeous.
As you know, peas can be made large or very small, it all depends on your desire. But first things first. Let's start with small peas. You will need the eggs themselves, food coloring to color them in, and two or three colored glass outlines.
Color the eggs, dry them well and use contours to apply voluminous dots-peas.
The contour dries completely, as a rule, within 24 hours, but as practice shows, after 12 hours such eggs can be safely picked up or served.
Large peas on eggs are also easy to draw.
In the same way, you first need to color and dry the eggs.
Now prepare white acrylic paint and a pencil with an eraser on the end. Dip the eraser in the paint and use it as a stamp, draw peas all over the surface of the egg with it and leave for five to ten minutes until the paint dries.

How to paint eggs in such a way that geometric shapes, various lines or crosses are visible on it?
You will need a regular band-aid.
Masking tape may also work for this purpose.
Cut out strips of the required length and width from adhesive tape or adhesive tape, and stick them on the eggs as well.
Carefully press the patch along the edges, and only after making sure that it sticks very well, dip the eggs into the dye.
When the shell is colored, dry the eggs and only then remove the adhesive tape or adhesive tape.
In place of the patch, the original color of the eggshell will remain, and the egg itself will acquire an interesting pattern.

How to paint eggs so that no one else has such eggs on any table?
This time we need the simplest thin church candles.
Boil the eggs until cooked and dry them thoroughly. With a candle, write the names of the invited guests on them or write a letter on each egg, and then lay out the word Easter or any other word symbolizing this holiday on the table.
When all the words, names or letters are written, dip the eggs in the dye.
Those places that were touched by wax from a candle will remain unpainted, and you can treat your guests with personalized eggs or surprise with an interesting table decoration made from such eggs.

A basket with multi-colored painted eggs on the Easter table is a tradition that invariably causes a smile in adults and a stir in children. Everyone wants to try the Easter egg as soon as possible - because since it is so bright in appearance, it must have some special taste. Needless to say - today you will not surprise anyone with the bright colors of Easter eggs - the Chinese chemical industry works without interruption, supplying dyes of very dubious composition and quality to our market. And if you want your guests to treat themselves to Easter eggs without fear, then you will probably try to use natural paints for them, without chemistry, which can easily penetrate through the porous shell. And not the fact that after this the eggs will remain edible. Fortunately, it is possible to completely eliminate chemistry when coloring eggs. And it is not at all necessary to use the number one natural dye, which was and remains onion skins, which can give an intense brick red color. No less pleasant, yellow color can be given by one well-known Indian seasoning turmeric. And I will now tell you in detail and clearly show how to color eggs with turmeric. Turmeric is a plant that can safely be called unique. The birthplace of turmeric is India, where it is widely used not only as a seasoning, but also added to cosmetics and even dyed fabrics with turmeric. A big “plus” of turmeric is that the seasoning is relatively inexpensive, widely represented on sale, and packaged in decent-sized bags. In cooking, it is used to color boiled rice, to give an intense yellow color to Korean cabbage. I hope your first experience with turmeric for coloring eggs will inspire you to use the seasoning for other purposes. For example, by adding literally a pinch to the dough for Easter cakes, you will get a delicious sunny shade of rich crumb.

Ingredients for coloring eggs with turmeric:

  • Chicken eggs - 1 dozen
  • Turmeric - 1 sachet (20 g)

How to dye eggs with turmeric (step by step)

A bag of turmeric seasoning weighing 20 g is usually enough for 1.5-2 liters of water. So, we fall asleep turmeric in a pot of water. We put the dishes on the fire. We are waiting for the water to boil. Reduce the heat to moderate, cook the turmeric for about 15 minutes. By the way, take a pot that you don’t mind, because its walls will turn yellow. Also, if you want to end up with a more saturated color of the eggs, then double the amount of turmeric.

While preparing the solution for dyeing eggs yellow, take care of the eggs. They must be washed under warm water. In the process, it is recommended to use a soft sponge.

The yellow turmeric solution is ready. Let it cool down a bit and then add the eggs to it. Tip: so that the eggs do not burst during cooking, as sometimes happens, they should be taken out of the refrigerator in advance so that they warm up. If there is no time, then the eggs can be held a little in warm water, and then placed in a saucepan. Boil the eggs for about 8-10 minutes. The solution should completely cover the eggs. Make sure the boil is not too intense.

We take out the eggs, which acquired a pleasant yellow color after cooking.

Cool, decorate with stickers (optional).

So, using a spice like turmeric, we were able to color chicken eggs for the Easter holiday in a beautiful yellow color. This method is not only economical and simple, but also absolutely harmless.

So, wash and dry the eggs well. If you have dry leaves of plants and flowers, then pour hot water into a small mug and drop the herbarium into it, after a couple of minutes the leaves will become flexible and it will become easy to work with them. If using fresh leaves, dip them in cold water so they stick to the eggs.

Now we apply a leaf to the egg, tightly wrap the egg in one layer in gauze or bandage and tie it in a knot. Do not forget to hold the leaf so that it does not move anywhere with us. If you decide to wrap it in nylon socks or tights, then cut off the sock from them and put an egg in this “bag”, and tie a knot with threads. Get a string bag.

Do the same with the rest of the eggs. For each method, I used one or two eggs. Therefore, I did not wrap all the eggs, the rest will be painted differently for me.

The first way - onion peel

This method is the most common and dearly loved by our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, for them it was almost the only option for coloring eggs. We're talking about onion skins.

So, put blue and onion husks, eggs, a teaspoon of salt in a saucepan and pour such an amount of water that the eggs are completely covered. We put on the fire and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and cook the eggs with the husk for another 10 minutes. The water has already turned into a bright red, slightly reddish color. Turn off the heat, close the lid and let the eggs stand for as long as we see fit. The longer they lie in the water, the brighter and richer the color of the eggs will turn out. It took me about 10 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, take out one egg at a time and transfer it to a pot of cold water. Thus, we will fix the coloring and cool the eggs faster.

Now we take out the eggs from the gauze, if you painted using the same method as I did, and admire the result.

I got amazingly colored Easter eggs! And the pattern was perfectly drawn, on the second (at the end of the article) it will be visible.

Second way

The next one made me very happy. For him, we need 5 tbsp. l. ground coffee. I had coffee beans at home, so I quickly ground it.

Pour the ground coffee into a pot of cold water. Add a teaspoon of salt and add the eggs. Bring to a boil, stir and cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes more. After turning off the fire, close the lid and leave for 15-20 minutes. Here it is exactly the same as in the case of onion peel: the longer, the better. It took me 15 minutes.

We take out the eggs with a slotted spoon, remove them from gauze, this pleasant coffee color is already visible in the photo, and what a flavor!

It was hot to get out of gauze, but I endured. After I washed it with cold water, that's what I got! Delicate cream-colored eggs. The leaf was apparently not tightly pressed to the shell, but I liked this effect of negligence even more. Just look!

Another way is turmeric or curry

Unfortunately, the turmeric ran out treacherously, and I had to use curry. After reading on the Internet that turmeric can be safely replaced with curry, I trusted, and following the recipe, I dyed the eggs.

So, for this we need to boil the eggs, following my advice above and add 1 tbsp. l. vinegar and 2 tbsp. l. curry. Cook for another 10 minutes, turn off the stove and leave the eggs to color for at least 30 minutes. They will acquire a delicate yellow tint, and if left for longer, a bright, sunny color will turn out.

I needed a saucepan, and I transferred the egg with part of the water into a glass.

Here it is, in the center!

Fourth way

The fourth method pleasantly surprised me. For it, we need: a plastic mold or a clean glass of sour cream or mayonnaise, with a tight-fitting lid, then 2-3 teaspoons of rice or barley porridge (like mine) and two food colors to your taste. Oh yes, be sure to boil a white egg in advance, without any patterns and bandages.

We add cereals and a couple of drops of one dye, for example, yellow, to the container, mix with a spoon, put the egg, close the lid and shake gently. Open and take out the egg. We add a couple more tablespoons of rice or barley porridge (it is small and easily sticks to the shell, which is why I chose it) and add a few drops of a second food coloring, for example, green. Put the same egg into the container again: close the lid and shake.

We take out the egg, wipe it with paper towels. NEVER WASH! What a lovely egg I got! It is textured (rough to the touch) and incredibly bright, multi-colored. Optionally, you can paint it in a third color.

Fifth way - Captain Galaxy!

And now it's color time. I had seen enough on, and I had the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating galactic Easter eggs. Of course, they have been on the Internet for a long time, this is not news to anyone, but suddenly mine will seem innovative to you. Go!

My photo is only the final one, this time not through hardships to the stars! ;) Making such eggs is easy!

Boil the eggs in the added water, then dip them in cold water, as I wrote above, dry them with a towel and now attention!

Let's take two food colors: red and blue. Mix 5-6 drops of each in a glass of warm water, 1 tsp. vinegar and 1-2 tsp. sunflower oil. We need oil for "star dust", for white dots. We mix everything.

Now we wrap the egg with hair bands or money rubber bands so that we get rings, like Saturn's, and put the egg in a glass. Leave it there for 10 minutes and take it out. Here's what should work. Bright, cosmic Easter egg. Isn't it beauty?

With the help of kandurin and a brush, if desired, you can add a little gold strokes. And if it seems to you that there are not enough “stars” on the egg, then dip the brush in white paint and carefully run your finger over it, this way you will spray the paint on the egg. It will turn out very cool!

And here is the same cracked egg that let me down and what I ended up doing with it.

In two glasses with warm water, vinegar and a couple of drops of blue dye, I dipped (half) the egg and held it for 3 minutes, no more. Then, in another glass, only with red dye, I dipped the other side of the egg and held it there for another 2 minutes. And then in one of the two glasses I added a little more dye and dipped the egg again, where it did not stain much. Nothing complicated, but I perfectly disguised it! See what happened.

Two space eggs.

Smoothly, I moved on to unsuccessful options.

Beet. I heard about coloring eggs with beetroot juice many times, but I still didn’t dare, and now, the time has come. To be honest, I was disappointed, because you need to cook beets for a very long time (always with vinegar!) And the color turns out to be pale-pale pink.

So, if you're new to Easter egg coloring like me or don't have much time left, don't try this method. And if you still tried, and just like me, got into a mess, there is a way out - paints. Just dip the egg in red food coloring, following the instructions on the package, and let it sit for a few minutes.

If among you, dear readers, there are those who skillfully paint eggs with beets, share a proven recipe. I will be very grateful!

In the photo on the left is the red dye that saved my beet egg, and on the right is dyed with onion peel.

The last bad experience is green tea. No matter how much you cook and leave eggs in tea, the color is very dull. And I spilled a lot of tea. I do not recommend! If you only take green tea mate and try to color in it. I don't think he will have any problems.

How to fix this thing - you already know, taught;) Although I still left one for an example, I'll show it below.

Here he is, my tea friend, first in the bottom row!

These are the eggs I got. Delicate, cosmic and simply beautiful. How do you like them?

The tradition of painting eggs for Easter in different colors, that is, cooking krashenki(or krashanki) has been around for a very long time. The most famous is the legend according to which Saint Mary Magdalene came to tell Emperor Tiberius about the Resurrection of Christ, and the emperor replied that he would believe it if the egg turned red. And Mary Magdalene handed him an egg, which really turned red. According to legend, since then, Christians began to give each other red-colored eggs at Easter, as confirmation of the great Easter joy: “Christ is Risen!” Over time, eggs began to be dyed in other colors, often using chemical paints for this. I would like to talk about how to dye eggs for Easter using natural dyes, as my grandmother and mother once did, and how, in turn, they taught me.

Ingredients:

  • chicken eggs
  • 1-2 tsp salt per 1 liter. water
  • vegetable oil
  • coloring components: for colors from orange and red to red-brown - onion peel; to obtain various shades of yellow - turmeric or curry seasoning (1 pack - 20 gr.); thin twigs of poplar

Cooking:

  1. Like Krashenki, they are prepared on Thursday of Holy Week (Clean Thursday). Before dyeing, wash the eggs thoroughly (so that the paint lays evenly) and put them in warm water so that they heat up and do not burst later during cooking.
  2. Cooking coloring decoction of onion peel, for coloring eggs in colors ranging from dark orange or red to red-brown. We wash the onion peel, throwing it in a colander, and put it in a saucepan, fill it with water. You need enough water so that it then covers the eggs well. And onion peel - the more the better, the brighter and richer the color of the eggs will be. If you add blue onion husks to ordinary husks, you get a beautiful burgundy hue. Add salt so that the eggs do not burst (as my grandmother did), stir.
  3. Bring the onion peel to a boil, reduce the heat and boil the peel over low heat for 25-30 minutes. Then turn off the onion peel broth and cool to warm. We filter, we throw out the husk. We put the eggs in a warm coloring broth and put on fire. Let it boil and cook for 7-10 minutes, periodically turning the eggs with a spoon for even coloring.
  4. We shift the painted eggs into a saucepan with cold water for 2-3 minutes, and then onto a plate so that they do not touch. The plate can be covered with paper towels or a folded cotton cloth.

  5. Cooking coloring decoction of turmeric or curry seasoning, the main component of which is also turmeric. In a small saucepan or ladle (I have a volume of 700 ml.) Pour the contents of the seasoning bag, salt and pour in enough water to cover the eggs (it turns out about 0.5 l.). I poured in a little less so that the eggs in the photo were clearly visible. We stir. You can also use large dishes, but then you need to take more seasonings, otherwise the broth will turn out to be slightly colored, and the color will not be saturated.
  6. Bring to a boil, boil for 5 minutes, let cool until warm. You can strain through cheesecloth folded in several layers (I did not filter). I put the eggs in the broth. We put on fire.
  7. After boiling, cook for 10 minutes, while boiling the eggs, turn from time to time so that they are colored evenly. Then we take out the eggs with a spoon from the broth and rinse with cold water. If you have not filtered the broth, carefully remove the seasoning particles with the soft side of the sponge or with your fingertips. Strongly not three, so that the paint is not washed off. After coloring all the eggs, do not forget to immediately wash the saucepan so that it does not turn yellow either :) We shift the yellow eggs onto a plate. By the way, I dyed brown eggs - they dyed beautifully.
  8. You can clearly see what color brown eggs dyed with turmeric acquire in the recipe photo.
  9. Preparing for coloring eggs in yellow. We put the washed branches in a saucepan, fill with water. Again, you need enough water so that it then covers the eggs, and more branches. Add salt. Bring to a boil, cook over low heat for 20-30 minutes. Turn off and also cool to warm.
  10. Put the eggs in a warm coloring solution, bring to a boil and cook over low heat until a beautiful rich color is obtained. It usually takes about 10 minutes, but some eggs have to be cooked longer to color better. During cooking, the eggs are periodically turned and, if part of the solution has evaporated, pour them with a coloring solution. This is necessary so that the color of the eggs is uniform, without spots.
  11. With a tablespoon, carefully transfer the finished eggs into a saucepan with cold water for 3 minutes. At the same time, it is better to put eggs of different colors in different saucepans.
  12. When the eggs are dry, you can put a little vegetable oil on a cloth or sponge and rub the eggs lightly to give them a beautiful sheen.
  13. In addition, Easter eggs can be dyed light yellow.

The greater the abundance of all kinds of artificial food colors, the stronger the desire to return to natural colors. We experimented with beetroot, red cabbage, and curry teas to color Easter eggs in the delicate hues of dawn, clear skies, morning sun, and young grass.
