There is no home baking easier than shortbread. Introducing the classic recipe for crispy, mouth-watering shortbread cookies. No special culinary skills are required to bake it. In addition, the dough serves as an inexhaustible source of invention. By playing with additives and shapes, you can come up with a variety of delicious crafts. One of them - stars with a red eye - we will show in the appendix to the recipe. So that shortbread cookies are not brittle, we will not just pour sugar into the dough, but dissolve it in a small amount of water.

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams of flour
  • 200 grams of butter
  • 1 egg,
  • 100 grams of sugar
  • 1.5 tablespoons of water
  • 50 g viscous red jam (for stars)

Bake shortbread cookies

The dough for shortbread cookies is kneaded in just five minutes. Pour water into a glass with sugar and mix so that the sugar dissolves a little.

Add the egg.

Pour out the flour. Knead with a spoon.

We finish kneading the dough with our hands, forming a soft ball.

We put the ball in a plastic bag and send it to the refrigerator. Let it lie there for at least an hour. (By the way, such shortbread dough for cookies can be made for future use. It will stay in the refrigerator for about 3-4 days, and the shelf life in the freezer is not limited at all.)

The chilled dough rolls out easily, does not melt and keeps its shape perfectly. Just in case, you should dust the board with flour so that the cookies don't stick. Cut out various cookies with cookie cutters.

Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.

Before baking, the oven must be preheated to 200 degrees. We put the cookies for 5-7 minutes, until the edges become golden.

How to make shortbread jam stars

You may have noticed that we used an asterisk shape to cut the cookies. In half of the stars, we made small round holes (a piece from a disposable syringe was used as a notch).

We take an asterisk without a notch. Put some jam in the middle. The jam should be fairly thick and sticky.

Cover with a second asterisk with a round hole and press down.

It takes about half an hour for the cookie halves to stick together properly. During this time, I do not advise leaving the cookies unattended, otherwise there will be nothing to serve with tea.
